Recess Club

Project Overview

When I was approached to do the logo and posters for Recess Club, I saw this as an opportunity to have some fun. I really love the type of music that is played on this particular night, so I thought about how I would want this poster to look if I was an attendee. I wanted to experiment with distorted typography by utilizing a scanner to distort and bend the letters. The circle of the logo is meant to represent a vinyl record, and the bold, chunky, serif typeface for the initials gives it a timeless, upscale look.

Background

Recess Club is a monthly house music night that takes place at The Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City. The idea is for those who attend to put away their cell phones and just listen to the great music that’s being played. Each month, they feature a different respected DJs from the valley or from abroad. They also have two resident DJs that play each night. The genre of music being played ranges from techno, deep house, tech house, and disco.
